AUSW vs INDW Semi Final 2023

 AUSW VS INDW - SEMI

 FINAL REPORT

Australia Women have won the toss
and have opted to bat

Meg Lanning:

We are gonna have a bat. Looks a prettygood wicket, conditions are really good so get out there and have some fun. Jess Jonassen comes in for Alana King and Alyssa Healy (fully fit and good to go) is back for Annabel Sutherland. It's a different wicket, looks like it is playing pretty well, as usual we get out here and see what it is doing and adjust accordingly.

Australia Women (Playing XI): Alyssa Healy(w), Beth Mooney, Meg Lanning(c), Ashleigh Gardner, Ellyse Perry, Tahlia McGrath, Grace Harris, Georgia Wareham, Jess Jonassen, Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown

Harmanpreet Kaur:

Pooja is unwell, so Sneh is replacing her. One more change is there. In place of Raja (Rajeshwari Gayakwad) Radha (Yadav) is in. I had a fever, but now I'm fine. One thing that we have been discussing throughout the tournament that we have to bat well that's why we added one more batter. One more change: Yastika comes in for Devika.

India Women (Playing XI): Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur(c), Richa Ghosh(w), Deepti Sharma, Yastika Bhatia, Sneh Rana, Shikha Pandey, Radha Yadav, Renuka Thakur Singh

Monney scored 54 runs in 37 balls and the captian Lanning scored 49 notout in 34 balls finally Gardner aggressive 31 of18 balls helps australia to reach the 172 marks

At the end of the australian innings they score 172-4 in the semi final its a huge plus for them becoz they a quality bowlers to restrict indian with that score...

Australia being Australia. In a crunch game, when they get the chance, they get on top. India started okay in the powerplay, but their ground fielding and catching was found wanting. Lanning was dropped once and Richa then missed a stumping. Mooney was dropped once and then the misfields cost at least 10 runs. Australia rode the tide, waited for their time and once Mooney got going, got the momentum and Gardner was at her brutal best. Lanning chose the exact right moment to step up and stole the show in the last over. India's field placing, bowling execution, fielding was found wanting. Now they need to bat without fear and in doing so, play responsible shots too. Not going to be easy against this quality Aussie bowling line-up. They also need to be wary of not eating too many dot balls.

The back to back wickets downfall for indian in the powerplay is big disadvantage for them(3 wickets).

But jemimah and harmanpreet took well the innings , as well a way head then australia at the stage of 10th over 93-3 (this stage AUS were 69-1).

After the time out the Aussies are taking the wickets in the regular intervals and also the unimaginable runout of kaur change the match to
australian side...

At the end of the Crushing Semi Final Australian's Won the semifinal at just 5 runs and enter in to the finals..

This is a heartbreak for India. If you looked at the first half, they don't deserve to win today, but if you had a glance at the chase, their fighting spirit and comeback with the bat despite three early wickets was nothing short of inspirational. The final at the G in 2020 was a surrender, but they can keep the heads high for the fight they put on. Australia thought this was slipping away at one stage, but Harmanpreet's bat getting stuck before the crease opened the door for them. Australia rode on the slice of luck that India didn't have in their fielding effort. India were shoddy with their field placing, fielding and bowling as Australia made an above-par total. India looked down with three quick wickets, but Jemi smacked the first two balls she faced for four and captain Harmanpreet's first ball back foot punch for gave the hint that these girls weren't giving up. Some fearless cricket from both and suddenly India bossed the powerplay.

Ash Gardner | Player of the Match: Bowling the last over, my average heart-rate is probably like 190. That just shows the way we fight as a team, and that's what we kind of spoke about in the huddle right at the end. We probably weren't in a winning position and that's when this team does best. When our backs are up against the wall, we find a way and we scrap really hard and that's what we did today with the ball. I think we set up the game really well with the bat, probably missed a few with the ball but I think that fight we showed shows the character of this team. (Meg was telling me to) just be really clear with what I want to execute, we obviously know that they have handy batters all the way down, so it's about being clear on what you want to do and not give any freebies. I was just trying to hit the wicket and keep the stumps in play as often as possible. Always nice spending time in the middle, spending time with Meg as well. She is always calm and keeps it simple out there. I felt with the confidence coming into this game after the couple of innings I have had throughout this World Cup, I guess I gotta take that confidence into the next game and then hopefully win in the final.

Harmanpreet: Can't be unluckier than this, to get that momentum back when me and Jemi were batting. And to lose after that, we didn't expect this today. The way I got runout, can't be unluckier than that. Putting in the effort was more important. We discussed about fighting till the last ball. The result didn't go our way, but I am happy with the way we played in this tournament. We know we have a good batting line up even if we lose early wickets. Need to give credit to Jemi for the way she batted today. She got us the momentum we were looking for. Happy to see such performances. Happy to see them play their natural game. We even though we didn't play to our strengths, we reached the semis. We gave those easy catches away. Got to take those when you want to win. We misfielded. We can only learn from these lessons and not repeat the mistakes.

Lanning: One of the best wins I have been involved in. To fightback from well behind and win despite not playing our best cricket. Great fighting spirit from the girls, couldn't be more proud of them. We missed out lengths and gave width at tims. India came hard at us and they have got some incredible players. Came right down to the wire and we had to seize those clutch moments. Certainly holds us in good stead for the final. We stayed in the game and that's what you got to do under pressure. We didn't execute as well as we would have liked, but we never panicked. Can't wait to be out here on Sunday.

CONCLUSION:
That concludes an outstanding game of cricket. Both teams were brilliant and poor in patches. In the end the side that handled this game mentally well (pressure) prevailed. These are the kind of games that teach you great lessons and the astute ones pick up stuff and go on to rule their domains later. India and Australia gave us a thriller. What do England and South Africa have in store?.. Let's wait and watch.....
